Astro pricing rate sheet: plans, components, and region uplift

Astro Pricing Estimation Guide

Source: https://www.astronomer.io/pricing.md

This document provides a framework for estimating Astro pricing based on published list rates. It is intended as a guideline for understanding Astro's pricing structure and building rough cost estimates. Actual pricing and quotes can only be provided by Astronomer sales representatives. Rates, discounts, and terms may vary based on commitment level, volume, and specific customer requirements. For an official quote, contact Astronomer sales.

Astro offers transparent, usage-based pricing for fully managed Apache Airflow. You only pay for the compute resources you actually use. Clusters, deployments, and workers scale with your workload. Both pay-as-you-go monthly billing and annual credit commitments are available.

How to Use This Document

To estimate Astro pricing for a customer, follow these steps in order:

  1. Determine their plan: Developer, Team, Business, or Enterprise based on required features.

  2. Identify cloud provider and region: Determine the customer's preferred cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and region to look up the region uplift multiplier.

  3. Size their cluster: Standard (included at no cost) or Dedicated ($2.00/hr base x region uplift).

  4. Size their deployments: Choose deployment size (Small, Medium, Large, XL) and resiliency (Single-Instance or High Availability) per environment. For Remote Execution deployments, use the Remote Deployment rates.

  5. Estimate worker compute: Determine worker sizes (A5-A160) and expected concurrency/runtime per environment.

  6. Apply region uplift: Multiply each base hourly rate by the region uplift for the customer's cloud/region.

  7. Calculate estimated total: Total = Cluster cost + Deployment cost + Worker cost (all adjusted for region uplift). This is a rough estimate based on list rates.

  8. Contact Astronomer sales: For Business and Enterprise pricing, volume discounts, or an official quote, direct the customer to Astronomer sales.

Important: The rates in this document are published list rates and serve as a starting point for estimation. They do not constitute a binding quote. Final pricing depends on plan tier, commitment terms, and customer-specific requirements. Only Astronomer sales representatives can provide official quotes.

Key Definitions

  • Cluster: A Kubernetes cluster that hosts the infrastructure required to run Airflow environments (Deployments). Standard clusters are multi-tenant and included at no cost. Dedicated clusters are single-tenant with advanced networking and security.

  • Deployment: An Airflow environment on Astro encompassing the scheduler, webserver, triggerer, and workers. One triggerer (0.5 vCPU, 1.875 GiB) is included in every Deployment at the same size across all Deployment types.

  • Worker: Executes individual Airflow tasks. Workers scale to zero when idle -- you only pay while tasks are actively running. Worker types are named by size (A5 = 1 vCPU / 2 GiB, scaling linearly up to A160 = 32 vCPU / 64 GiB).

  • High Availability (HA): Runs Airflow components across multiple availability zones to eliminate single points of failure. Recommended for production environments.

  • Remote Deployment: A deployment configured for Remote Execution, where tasks run in the customer's own hardware or private cloud with outbound-only connections to Astro's orchestration plane. Available on Enterprise tier with a Dedicated cluster.

  • Region Uplift: A multiplier applied to all base hourly rates depending on the cloud provider and region selected. Our base pricing region is AWS us-east-1 and us-east-2 (1.00x multiplier). All base prices in this document reflect these regions.

Component Pricing

All product tiers use the same base hourly rates for clusters, deployments, and workers. Networking costs are passed through from the cloud provider.

Base prices below reflect our base pricing region: AWS us-east-1 and us-east-2 (1.00x region uplift). Multiply by the applicable region uplift for other regions.

Pricing is charged at an hourly rate but measured by the second for maximum accuracy.

Cluster Pricing

Standard clusters are included on all plans at no additional cost. Dedicated clusters provide single-tenant infrastructure with enhanced networking and security.

Cluster Type Base Price/hr Availability
Standard Included All plans
Dedicated $2.00 Team, Business, Enterprise

Deployment Pricing

Each Deployment includes the scheduler, webserver, DAG processor, and one triggerer. Choose a size based on scheduling complexity and DAG volume.

Single-Instance Deployments

Deployment Size Base Price/hr
Small $0.35
Medium $0.57
Large $0.77
Extra Large $1.54

High Availability Deployments

HA Deployments run Airflow components across multiple availability zones. Available on Team plan and above.

Deployment Size Base Price/hr
Small HA $0.70
Medium HA $1.14
Large HA $1.54
Extra Large HA $3.08

Remote Execution Deployments

Remote Deployments are configured for Remote Execution, where tasks run in the customer's own environment. Available on Enterprise tier with a Dedicated cluster.

Deployment Type Base Price/hr
Remote $0.35
Remote HA $0.70

Worker Pricing

Workers execute individual Airflow tasks and scale to zero when idle. You only pay for worker compute while tasks are actively running.

Worker Type vCPU Memory (GiB) Base Price/hr
A5 1 2 $0.13
A10 2 4 $0.26
A20 4 8 $0.52
A40 8 16 $1.04
A60 12 24 $1.56
A120 24 48 $3.12
A160 32 64 $4.16
Additional Triggerer 0.5 1.875 $0.13

Need a larger worker? Astronomer supports larger sizes upon request. Celery, Kubernetes, and Astro executors are all supported.

Ephemeral Storage: All Celery workers include 10 GiB by default; KE/KPO workers include 0.25 GiB. Additional ephemeral storage is available at $0.0002 per GiB per hour.

KE/KPO Billing: Astro measures total CPU and Memory across your KE/KPO infrastructure and bills for the number of A5-equivalent workers (1 vCPU, 2 GiB each), rounded up to the nearest A5.

Additional Triggerer: The included triggerer supports up to ~1,000 concurrent running triggers with low to medium memory requirements. Additional triggerers can be added at the rate above for heavier workloads.

Astro AI Pricing

Token Type Price
Prompt tokens (input) $3.75 per million tokens
Response tokens (output) $18.75 per million tokens

Public preview pricing for AI-assisted DAG authoring & testing.

Region Uplift

All base hourly rates (clusters, deployments, workers) are multiplied by the region uplift factor for the customer's selected cloud provider and region.

Note: Our base pricing region is AWS us-east-1 and AWS us-east-2 (1.00x). All base hourly rates listed in this document reflect these regions. Azure eastus, Azure eastus2, Azure westus2, Azure westus3, GCP us-east1, GCP us-central1, GCP us-west1, and GCP us-east5 also carry a 1.00x multiplier. All other regions include an uplift above the base rate.

Example: A Dedicated Cluster in AWS ap-northeast-1 = $2.00/hr base x 1.32x uplift = $2.64/hr.

Cost Allocation Across Teams

For organizations that need to attribute Astro spend back to individual teams, business units, or product lines, see Astro chargeback and showback: per-team cost allocation for orchestration spend. The guide walks through Workspace-based cost grouping, finance-language showback workflows, and per-team invoice rollups built on top of the rate sheet above.
